after losing a dogbone from the front after an awful jump,, i thought of a way to keep your dogbones and even if they do pop out you will be able to find them without problem...

take some shrink tubing,,, the size of the outdrive brass.. cut about a 3/4" 1" strip,,, place over the brass with the dogbone inside,,, shrink the tubing,,, the tubing will fit snug around the brass,, and still allow play for the dogbone,, but will not allow the dogbone to pass through,,,
the next VISIBLE step,, add 2 ,3, 4, 5 whatever,, different color small zipties on the dogbone itself,, that way if it falls out from an acrobatic flip and is ejected you will still find it,, .... black dogbones are hard to find on black asphalt,,, and on dirt,, depending on the color of the dirt...

or to skip the ziptie,, use a bright color shrink tube.... so far they work well,, no binding anywhere,,, only thing is,, im still without a dogbone.. have to go to LHS to get another set or 2(just incase my idea doesnt work,,...

i will show pics tomorrow ,, step by step..

man oh man...for a peace officer, you sure know how to "improvise" - must be your nature to do so...my good friend down the street (20 years in commercial crime division) - his mindset is very similar to yours - always very creative...:)

somebody HELP!!!! stalker!!!!!!,, help!!!!!!

well i spend my time thinking of ways to do things,, and i d it to see if they work,,, i really dont have the money for the cvd's at the moment,, and heat shrinks are cheap,,, and a pack of matches can be free......

im still trying to find ways to have better traction at the track...

going to try out tight front diff and less than tight rears..

the mamba is just too much for the dirt,,,

didnt you put collars on the outdrives, because i took a big jump with the 18t and landed on the rear tires and both my bones shot out, i was like what the ----. Thats when acsubie told me to put the collars on the 18t outdrives. Never had any problems since then.

what.... what did i do,,, im a newbie,,, i dont be knowin any betta,,, (ebonics 101)

got a quick question,, how in the heck do you prevent the outdrives,, or actually the axles from chewing up the dogbone guide pins... this is the second dogbone i have have had to replace where the pins were shaven...

and are there metal outdrives to match the metal cvd's...

alfred

This was a question I asked before buying the MIP CVDs and it seems as if Assocuated are happy with the composite outdrives.

I used M18 outdrive reinforcers on the RC18T like alfred suggested. So far so good, I held them in place with ShoeGoo
REgarding the MIP CVD kit, no it doesn't come with outdrives either :p

I'm sure it will only be a question of time before some company manufactures metal/alloy outdrives, until then we'll have to use the Associated replacement parts which are cheap, thank goodness :)

thanks mondo,,, actually there was talk on one18th about a company making the metal and titanium out drives,,, and one store actually has delrin outdrives (dont know how that will fair)... but like you said,, thank god the parts are cheap...

They are nothing more than the M18's plastic version of the brass bushings you have on your RC18T's outdrives.

I think the company that was going to make the metal outdrives was GPM, but we just have to wait and see. Since putting on the rings for the outdrives i have not lost a bone or had one come out for that matter. And yes thank God the parts are cheap.:D

well i just melted the edges of my outdrives,,,, just one side though in the rear,,

you should see the ntire diff,,, some of the plastic melted into the bearings,, i had to tear it apart and knock the plastic off,,, works fine now...

just got my 8 cell pack from blind,,, will let you guys know how it runs tomorrow

i think it happended because i had no diff oil in the crank case,, and the heat just melted the plastic,,, would love to have a steel diff..

I dont put diff oil in the gear case and im having no problems like that at all, hey Jae you really know how to push the 18t to the extreme dont you. Well thats what this hobby is all about, breaking stuff lol.

Yes, i think you need to send a vid to RC Xtreme Magazine. On how tough the 18t is lol.

Some ball-diffs use ceramic grease, however I haven't stripped the RC18T's diff down yet, so I'm in the dark as to whether the diffs run fry or not.

jaejw1, even better, send the videos to Beatyourtruck (http://www.beatyourtruck.com) :D

The only thing i do is put some silicon grease on the balls. AE does grease the balls down before they get shipped. I wondered about that when i got mine home and checked. They put some light grease on the diff gear, so i just added to it for safe measure.:D

i noticed my diffs were pretty warm after running it without any grease,,, im using a lil 30k diff lube,,, i have to look at it again to make sure that is what it is,, pretty thick stuff,,, i have to scoop it out,,

alfred
02-27-2005, 05:50 PM
With gear diffs you can use thick grease, but with ball diffs just make sure you put the grease on the balls so the balldiff will be working properly.
