Just installed with an HPI servo saver. Attached with shoe goo and double sticky tape for the transplanted on/off switch. The servo needs the mounting tabs removed, and the saver needs an extra hole for the steering linkage. But other than that, it went pretty smooth, and it seems to be holding up okay. I'm going to give it a full shake down today.
The servo was at the right price for me, and I like it in my M18. The other one's I considered were the Hitec 85 and the Futaba micro servo. The JR that the M18 guys talk about would have been nice to try, but the price was a bit too much for now.
The other mod I did was to re-install the screws holding down the hinge pin on the left hand side, with some small washers. I figured a little extra insurance for them not to pop out. I also applied some stainless bolts from RcBoyz were it was necesary:D

Nice job on the servo. Wanted to use a micro servo and ditch the stocker but its kind of late for that since i bought some replacements already.

Thanks Alfred:D . So what are or did you put in there? I wanted to try something like the Futaba or Hitec 85, but I was pretty sure that the 81 would do a good job, so I went with what I knew.
Jaejw, the bumper is "made" (I use that term loosely), out of a finger splint. There are differnet types, but this one looked the best. The best part is the $2.50 price tag. It's still the first one, but I don't mind replacing it for another when it gets too busted up. Only one side was bent, so I bent in the other to kinda wrap around the shocks some. Just check for binding, since this is NOT the perfect solution. It protects the shock cups pretty well, and it's taken some punishment too. I attached it with double sticky tape. My "perfect" solution will be the CAW tube bumper in blue, whenever they get around to releasing some:rolleyes:
The swaybar is an ongoing project:rolleyes: . I'm still tring to find the perfect placement. The front and back fit, just not perfect yet. The kit is from the M18. I'm wondering if i'll have an easier time with the Mini-T one?

alfred,
What do the standard Associated Servos cost?
I may grab a few for spares although I do have 3 brand new HS81MG servos in my pit box.
If I could mount the HS81MGs without the need for double sided tape they would be a great solution for the RC18T :)

Well to me the servo seems kind of pricey, about the cost of the 85mg, here's a pic so you can see the price. Jon just started selling the 56 servo, but you have to remember in order to use the servo you need to get the optional servo saver set that AE makes.

How come the stock servo cost's so much? It's pretty good, it just got a bad rap from the bad saver and the improvements needed to the rest of the steering set-up.
So Alfred, did you try the 56 out? I think someone from the other board was saying the replacement saver is better than the one that came with the truck. I got the HPI to fit pretty easily. If the stock servo accepts the Hitec spline's, then you could use the HPI saver with an extra hole. It also comes with 2 other adaptors, a Futaba and something else.
I was wondering if you could use a servo mount like Motek has for the M18? I haven't seen a really good pix, but from what I understand, it is held in with set screws. The chassis on the RC18 can be tapped for the mount, and you could drop the servo and mount right in. I was questioning weather or not 4 set screws would hold down a servo, but if Motek has it on their chassis, it must be okay. I wonder how the set screws attach to the servo though? hhhmm, i'll go see if their site has better info. There is enough room for a mount like that with the Hitec 81 in my truck:cool:

I have the hs56 in there now nice little servo does the job. In order to use this servo you need to get the optional servo saver from AE, its in the manuel----in the parts list. There seems to be people having or disliking the 56 and having problems with there servo gears snapping---makes you wonder what there doing to there truck hmmmmm. lol I really dont know why the servo is expensive the stock one at least, i just wish the 18t had a optional micro servo mount so if we choose we could use the hs81, hs81mg, and the Futaba s3102 or the s3101. Now that would be nice.

the problem is a regular micro servo is just to big with the
" Ears" on it that you need to use to mount it with an adapter. I converted an old team EPIC servo mount to suit my needs. It's actually very trick looking. I'm at work now so i can't post pictures (well that and the fact that my wife took both cameras) but i should be able to post some tomorrow to show people what i did.

Quietfly, should I ask what you did to get TWO camera's taken away from you:rolleyes: ? My wife doesn't care for my hobby, but she wouldn't take away the camera. Unless she though it would get me to stop spending money on these things:D

Actually,
one camera was taken from me to take pictures of the children's choir, and the other one was taken because i left it in her truck and i just have not been home while she is to get it back. ( she also keeps "forgeting" to bring it back inside.)
i hope to post some pictures tonight.
