first i had to put a 20t pinion on,, because the regular size pinions for 300 cans wouldnt fit... ... the motor seems just ok with the regular stock batt-pack,,
but then i put the lil tiny 7 cell aaa pack on there and it just roared,,, not super mamba spee,, but i was pretty impressed,, for just a lil 10 dollar motor,,, im sure a speed 400 6v would have been better with the 6cells,, and maybe the speed 400 7.2volt will be better with the 7 cells i have coming,,
i cant wait to see what a 7 cell gp1100 will do....

Go get yourself a URC X61 matched pack (http://www.unitedrc.com/store/product.asp?BrandId=7&ID=177)
I haven't tried it with the RC18T yet, but everything else I've tried the X61 (and X23) pack(s) on flies :)

jaejw1, did you have to mod anything to get the motor in? I was under the assumtion that a 400 motor was a little bigger and the mounting holes had a different patteren? Its good at least that you got it to work. I wouldn't mind tring to get a 400 into mine:D . Again, I assume the 400 is faster than a 300?

naw it aint faster,,, not unless you can find a 6v for a 7.2 batt pack or a 7.2 volt for a 8.4pack.... mine is 8.4 nom,,, and the 7.2 pack just isnt enough to make me enjoy myself,,, imsure i could have conitous run time from it,, but it just isnt that fast,,,, stock motor is faster... but when i added my lil AAA 7cell pack then it came alive,, i had to use a 20t pinion on it also,, and there was no mod to be done,,,, the lil raised part on the motor squeezed right into the motor mount,, so snug i could probably get away withno using a mounting screw,,, not unless i plan on jumping...
it is a nice fit,, and the motor doesnt get warm at all,,,, here is a lil review done by dan... im sure you have read it,,, so have i,, but i re-read it again last night,, not realizing he tested the same motor i have.. http://www.danmarx.org/micro/hopups.html#380

well im still going to try to find 400 6v from LHS,, or i might just order one,,,
but with a good set of batts,, true 2/3A's 7 cell this thing has the torque and the speed.... but i cant really tell what the true speed would be like since the streets were wet,, and my tires are very slick,, bald....
the speed 300 i had in there took a dive,, some how while water dipping the motor i ruined the bushings,,, oh wel,, time to buy another,, but i willalso look for a speed 400 6v,,, which might be insane..
i did some math here,, if the speed 300 has a rpm of about 30,000 at 8.4v and the speed 400 6v has 25.8k rpm and looking at the gear ratios,, 15/55 and 22/55 the speed 400 should spin the spur gear about 10320 rpm while the speed 300 will only do 8196,,, not to mention the extra torque from the larger motor..
this is just my theory,, if im right then those math classes paid off,, i might just order the 400 6v just for the hell of it,,

I fitted a Speed 400 into my MQ. As I never ran it (the MQ) with the 380 it came with, so to be honest I dont know if there would be a performance difference.
However, the Graupner Speed 400 (7.2V) has a lot more magnetic resistance on the shaft, therefore the torque has to be better.
In fact, I was very impressed with the torque of the Speed 400 until the MQ's standard CVD snapped on its very first run :)

you should try the 6volt version,,, has more torque and and wattage,, ,,,, http://www.hobby-lobby.com/speed400.htm
just put it outside while the streets were dry,, and the thing flies just like the speed 300,,,, it seems to have a lil more pulling power also,, would love to see what a 6volt would do,, with my 8.4volt pack..
