Well the weather here is kind of bad and so i have been working on the 18t getting the hopups from AE. So far i have all AE parts:

Titanium Turnbuckle set
Blue Dogbones
Shock kit
Blue motor mount with heat sink
60t spur gear

alfred
01-22-2005, 02:09 AM
turnbuckles and Dogbones

alfred
01-22-2005, 02:10 AM
front and rear shock kits.

alfred

I also got the motor mount with heatsink but might get rid of it, i would rather use my Xray heatsink on there.

Alfred,

Very nice. The MC230R looks like it was made especially for the RC18T!
What brand of hop ups did you use?

Big-Kid
01-22-2005, 05:19 AM
That is one heck of a truck you've got there, Alfred!:D Those CVD's sure are beefy. I don't think they'll be bending anytime soon. Are they from AE or are they from Topcad? I thought AE only made blue dogs?

That also looks like the new digital speedo from LRP, very nice. How has it been working for you? Was the price pretty decent?

As always, great work and keep us in the loop:cool:

Good job alfred. Looks almost too good to bash around. How bout some vids when the weather gets better? :)

alfred
01-22-2005, 12:45 PM
All the parts are by AE, and thanks Big-Kid for the compliments. The ESC is fully automatic and has a built in fail safe thats why i picked it.

This project was suppose to be a trade for a nice M18, but since my buddies track closed down the trade was terminated, ohhh well hope to really temp him into the next hopups soon to follow. Front and rear alloy body posts and of course the lower A arms. So please stay tuned for next weeks pics.

do you think the shock will fit a minizilla? :d mind to share the length of the suspension? :) thank you :)

alfred
01-24-2005, 12:52 AM
The front shocks from top too bottom of the ball cup is 2inches and the rear is about 2 and half inches from top to bottom.

alfred

Im running the Pro rk370 motor in there with the 15t/60 gearing. It hauls major a$$. I dont run the 18t too much now since all the hopups are on there (still looking for an M18)

Just not yet there, but almost. Got the lower A-arms and the shock towers today, my lhs were out of the Caster blocks and the Steering blocks. Hopefully they will get some soon so this bad boy can be enjoyed.

Alfred, that is one fine 18T! I am sorely tempted to get one for myself.....
What are you gonna do for a body? A stock one just won't do justice to that chassis.

Mondo

Alfred,

Awesome!! Unfortunately the UK LHS outlets haven't quite gotten the hop ups in yet.
Most of the stuff I get will be pruchased thru Ebay
I will probably follow youre fine example, alloy socks, dogbones and shock towers.
I'm a little skeptical about alloy suspension arms: this comes from being a T-MAXX owner.

Your RC18T is a fine example of how they should be built :)

Thanks for the kind words guys, well this project is going to be complete as soon as i get in those parts. My lhs has a race class for these on Saturdays but dont really plan to participate in them. I think that a truck should be a truck and not lowered and and raced on the track with foams, indoor track at that. Overdose, yes and about the body for the 18t, i was hoping to commission you to do one for me if your schedule allows, same going rate as before.

Today was my first time that i really got to drive the 18t with all the hopups on it. The first couple of drives were very sloppy, but after the turn buckles and shock oil got changed out and dialed i was WOWED on how well the 18t handled. What a pleasure it is to just bash around.:D

the 18t has a low stance in the front and medium stance in the rear, the 18t drives like a buggy man awesome.

Alfred,

That RC18T of yours is outrageous
I like the battlescars on the new front bumper :)

alfred
02-06-2005, 03:27 PM
yes it got those by jumping small curves in the yard. At only 9.00 bucks for the bumper was a steal since the bumper seems to be made well and beefy at that. I shined it up using Mothers, which to me looks even better.

Alfred,

didn't they just announce the release date of the Factory Team RC18T? #20102 $229.99 Available March 2005
That's a real bummer for those that bought the original.

Upgrades include ...

- Blue Aluminum Threaded Shocks
- Blue Aluminum Dogbones
- Titanium Turnbuckles
- Blue Aluminum Heatsink Motor Mount
- Blue Graphite Battery Strap
- Blue Aluminum M3 Locknuts
- Carbide Steel Diff Balls

18T wheels, tires and a clear truck body with decals and window masks also included.

I can see the prices of the original coming down already.

alfred
02-14-2005, 08:08 AM
yes i know, thats why i wouldnt mind getting another one. Easier to hopup and get it running.:D And less hopups to buy is another plus.

alfred,

what servo did you run in your RC18T? and if it was micro servo, how did you mount yours?:)

alfred
02-14-2005, 11:28 PM
for the servo i used the HS-56HB servo, its a feather servo which means its a lot smaller then the micro. Too install you will need to get the optional servo saver from AE which is an option for the 18t. And the servo saver was only 3.00 dollars. If you need to see pics then i will post some, micro compared to the feather, you will see the difference. The feather is known as a sub-micro.

karbonite gears...nice.;)

btw, thanks for the photos of the lowering job and how you accomplished it. definately going to get one as soon as I get some of these projects off my table top. :D

That way your kids can bash with the 18t and you dont have to worry about breakage, completely stock it's one tough little truck. This way you will be able to finish some your projects going on----your one busy man. :D

Fellas i am finally done with the upgrades for the 18t. I know that i was going to leave some parts stock but oh well. :D

excellent tire choice alfred, those rear pin tires work great on my my mini-t, very good traction at the track

Alfred,

That RC18T of your looks so good I could put it on a plate and eat it!
That tire combo looks great too, I assume those tires are not for road bashing.
Let us know how they behave in the rough :)

alfred
03-19-2005, 12:22 PM
not for road bashing at all guys...down the street from is a park and i plan to use the tires there......if the little kids would leave me alone and stop wanting to see the 18t innards....:D

Well the only thing i didnt install on Friday were the CVD's, i had no problems whatsoever with the dogbones. Late last night i couldnt sleep so i decided to install the CVD's and saw how worn the bones were. It looks as if the spring in the outdrive was tearing into the alumiunum at the tip of the bone. Well since a set costs around 8.00 bucks they were worth it and lasted this long. Take a peek......

alfred

alfred,

From experience I can assure you that the FT MIP CVDs are a great investment.
They are much stronger than they look and put up with all sorts of abuse.

As you said... "getting there" :)

alfred
03-20-2005, 02:33 PM
yes i noticed that today when i was jumping small curves. And the rotation is less compared to the dogbones.......Please dont get me wrong the dogbones are great and stand up to lots of abuse, since they were in there for a long time...I think the week after the 18t hit the lhs. And at only 8.00 bucks very nice upgrade then the stock units.

So hows the hopup install coming too Mr. Moderator.
