Finally got to drive my 18t outside between storms and the thing is a blast to drive. It's sandy where I live so the tires aren't the best, but still fun. But I'm afraid with the exposed gears that a grain will get stuck between the teeth and destroy them. Several times I heard a noise and picked up the truck and blew off the spur and it was fine. Anyone know of a gear cover or some other option? Also that slot in the bottom of the chassis is a bad idea. I assume it's for the motor to cool off, but so much dirt got in the way. Is it safe to cover that with a piece of lexan or maybe rig up some kind of air filter?

you can cover the motor slot with lexan, but i really recommend getting a heat sink for the motor. I dont know about yours but the 300 motor i have in there now seems to get hot. Take a look at pic provided.

Does the associated heat sink/mount provide enough dissipation so the hole can be covered? What if you install a 300 style motor like beast raptor or chihuahua? My son is having a blast with this car but 10 minutes outside in dirt ruined the pinion. AE needs to make a cover.

Thanks,

Tom

i have'nt tried covering the motor area slot yet, im waiting for some parts to get in before i attempt to do that. The heat sink works well enough, and in the pic that is a 300 motor, got rid of the 280 because the rpms were'nt high enough.

I ordered the heatsink, mainly because I eventually want to upgrade the motor. But I'm still concerned where the pinion and the spur gear mesh together. I hope someone comes up with a solution. Until then I will just have to fasten something with some scrap lexan.

if your able to do it, please post pics. I havent gotten a chance to work on it since im waiting on some parts to come in for it.
