well my son was out playing with it,, going at moderate speeds,, nothing harmful,,,, continuos.. around and around in circles,,, ,,, he hit a pole at slow speed,, not hard at all,,, and the thing stopped running,, i picked it up and before i could look at it closely i could smell the motor,, which was hot,,,, i need a replacement,, something cheap until i can get a true upgrade,, just somthing simple,, like a speed 300 or something that will be a direct fit,,,

also does the motor tell you it is going out,,, like maybe performance start to decline,,

before i had probvlems keeping up with it,, with my MSF,, and now my msf runs circles around it,,,

simple motor replacement??
best long time ,motor replacement,,, ?? been thinking on getting the rk370 the one that radishack builds,,,

thnks for all your replies..

Get DK Pro370s. I dont have one but from what other people have said, there awesome. Their on ebay, just search for Xray M18. :)

That motor will really make the 18t really fly, i took out the stock 280 because there wasnt enough high rpms and replaced it with a Speed 300, which is a direct bolt on, you might need to get some 3mmx4 screws (preferebly button head) if you dont have some already. And now the 18t flies, and now can you imagine if you put on the Pro rk 370 motor in there, ohhh man its going to fly. I can tell you now that i think the heat was the killer of the motor, too much heat and not enough ventilation. I noticed how hot the 280 got when i first ran mine. Just get a heat sink to help the motor ventilate. Take a look at pic, and this heat sink will also fit the 280 motors as well. Its the Xray heat sink, used it because i had a spare one handy.

dang,, what fast replies.. thanks,, i will look for the speed 300 for now since it is really cheap,, around 10bux,, and it comes with thosae lil caps,, anyonje know how to solder them on,, as far as where they go,,,, is it the same on every motor,,

also i have a modified team orion micro motor,,, would this be too small.. ??

yes the caps are the same on every motor, called suppression caps, used to kill the motor noise, which can cause glitching of the servo.

One cap goes from + tab to - tab and the other goes from + tab to the can and the third goes from - tab to the can. Take a look at pic. Hope this helps man.

i could have sworn on the speed 300 watt-age,, i saw only 2 in the bag,, maybe im wrong.. what size caps are they and do all motors use the same..

Two is recommended and putting a third cap on the motor is to be safe. If the motor only comes with two caps then that should be sufficient. Instead of doing the first cap from tab to tab, your just going to put one on the +tab to can and the -tab to can. The caps we use are 104's. There's the brown caps and the infamous blue colored cap.

if you plan on getting that motor, it should be about the same---speed wise. You also have to consider the gearing of both micros. The reason why i said get it at your lhs because sometimes they carry the caps in bulk, for like 10cents a peice or they will carry the bagged caps (which there's 3 in a bag) and that will go for around 4.00 bucks.

wow,, ok,, i also need to folow that clicking noise isue with the gears..lol.. ig problem with mine..lol..

alfred

is it a grinding noise, because if it is you might want to check the front and rear ball diffs. I was amazed that the 18t came with ball diffs and not sucky gear diffs. Check the outdrives where the uni's are at and see how they fare.

well when i change the motors out,, i saw that the rear plate for the stock motor,, one of the claws came unbent,, causing the motor to not spin straight,,

motor is fine,, and so is the 370..lol..

well took it out for a terst run,,, seems like the lil motor can go,, for being ran on non charged batteries,,, but i guess the esc and the water (been raining) didnt like each other,, it wont go forward,, nor reverse,,, time for another esc,, might get anoter novak xrs,, or something less expensive..

and yes i do play with his,, but only when he isnt around..lol

alfred

jaejw1 ,,,, if you plan on running in the rain or where theres water you need to put your electronics in a balloon, use a balloon per electronic for example use one for the esc and use another for the receiver.

well the thing wont go in reverse,, plan on giving him my xrs esc and buying a more batt friendly esc,, somehting that can handle 9 pus cells,,

i took it out for a test run,, again the streets were wet,, but not as much as before,, the tires are completly bald,, and drifting on wet asphalt ws kind of fun,,,

im now worried about this speed 300 compared to my sleeper msf480 with its speed4006v with 7cells...lol.. 20t pinion

hey man, do you need an FM tx and rx. I recently went crystal-less and dont really need the radio. Its the Airtronics MX-3fm. Please let me know, will make an awesome upgrade for the MSF480.

still new to this,,, "will it make a difference?" ,,, i really need a new esc for my sons rc18,,, it fried itself totally,,, smoke and everything.. want to give him mine from the msf480 but then i wont have one,, ,,, got to wait until i get a a 9 + cells friendly esc.. ,, i really hate that the thing fried,, now he has nothing to play with,

alfred

its better then AM, with FM you get a much cleaner signal that AM provides and a lot less glitching. No rush man, not in a hurry to sell it, since your going to get another ESC.

The maker of those motors, Radishack, has been very sick the past 3 weeks so he is hard to contact. I dunno if he is making them at this time but once he gets better there willl be more. :)

He had more motors up on Ebay last week. I don't know if they're still there or not, but he seem's to be back into the swing of things again. When the R/c funds jar pick's up a little, i'm going to pop for one:cool:
